The patronal festival
Храмы нужны не Богу, престол Которого
небо и подножие земля, а нам они нужны…
Свт. Иоанн Шанхайский.
The patronal festival is called the Second Easter with good reason – during this festival one could obviously feel the patronage of St. John of Shanghai and San Francisco - the Miracle-Worker of the time of the end.
St. John (Maksimovich), the Archbishop of Shanghai and San Francisco (1896-1966), a Great Miracle-Worker, who had filled the whole world with his miracles, was canonized by the Russian Orthodox Church Abroad on 19 June / 2 July 1994.
Our Church in the name of St. John of Shanghai may be called a miracle without false modesty, which has come true not secretly, but evidently owing to the prayers of our Patron Saint John. Under the conditions of the grave economic crisis the five-story monastery complex was built on the site of a small one-story house by efforts of the small monastic community headed by Bishop Aleksey, and the first service in the Church in the name of St. John was held at Easter in 2002.
Bishop Vasilkovsky Tikhon talked about the importance of our Russian Orthodox Church Abroad at a sermon: “St. John, the Archbishop of Shanghai and San Francisco, served in the fold of this Church. The Saint was engaged in God's work of building the temple to his last breath and finished the Cathedral dedicated to the Icon of the Mother of God "Consolation of All the Afflicted" in San Francisco, at which he was later buried. His relics are incorruptible and they work miracles up to the present day. All our church members should have the book containing the Testimonies of Miracles of St. John “He is always nearby and always helps” for constant rereading and fostering their spirit”
Following the lead of St. John we also have to band ourselves together for good works: to continue the good cause of building the St. John Monastery and implementation of relieving project "House of Diligence" in the Skete of the holy and righteous Zechariah and Elizabeth.
