Women's monastic community

Women's monastic  community in the name of the Holy and Righteous John of Kronstadt.

The scale of charitable activity and intensity of the spiritual life of the monastery of St. John is amazing, it would seem impossible to maintain construction at such rate, expand production, take pastoral care of thousands people in need, even in conditions of deepening economic crisis. But after all big things are made up of many small good deeds.

Daily household care at the monastery are: cleaning, cooking, laundry, nursing, meeting of guests, constantly visiting the monastery, and many other subtle everyday affairs, which there is no household without, lay on the fragile shoulders of nuns, novices and laborers of monastic order.

Mother Martha, the prioress of the Women monastery, works tirelessly from day to day: she always catches up: orders products, controls the monastery laborers menu, covers meals, or just supports everyone with a kind word and a bright smile - the Prioress copes with all.

In addition to current domestic affairs, the work of workshops still needs to be organized: sewing and iconic, Mother Elizabeth helps Mother Martha with this. She stays in the monastery for more than 10 years, since the foundation of the monastery. Thanks to her, church services look so solemnly, all the vestments are sewn in our workshop.

Today iconic workshop expands as well: icons are being painted, bead has been started - it requires a lot of patience and skill. Nun Feodosia, the youngest of the nuns, copes with this work significantly; her embroidered icons please the eye and warm the cockles of anyone’s heart.

Women's monastic community was formed in 2003, when, thanks to a donation of Mother Marfa (Svetlana Averena, who sold her apartment in Kiev) they managed to buy the second half of the house in Tsvetushy line, 18 where building of Friary and the Church in the name of St. John (go to the page about the Church in the name of the St. John) was already in full swing.

The Women's monastic community has been strengthened and expanded for 10 years. Not so long ago they managed to transfer nuns and novices to the village Malaya Soltanovka, away from the worldly vanity.

Today Women's monastic abode occupies an entire building, where house-Church of the Holy Saint Nicholas, cells of nuns, novices and laborers, refectory, workshops and rooms for numerous pilgrims, visiting the monastery all the year round, are located.
Every sufferer, who knocked at the door of monastic nunnery, receives help and solace, because here they are trying to follow the precepts of the Celestial patron St. John of Kronstadt:

"An important motivation for mercy should be the fact that it is very useful for benefactors themselves - it strengthens their sense of humanity and returns incrementally to the giver.

Poverty or lack of funds does not serve as an excuse for not wishing to do good. Instead of the great gift, bring diligence. If you have nothing - console with tears. Great medicine to the unfortunate is when someone heartily will bemoan him; misfortune will be much easier with sincere condolences..."

At the moment the huge efforts are being made to implement the second part of the plan to build the monastery of St. John (go to page the monastery of St. John) - to build a separate building for the Women monastery, Church of the Icon of the Kazan Mother of God, infirmary and almshouse.

We invite everyone to take part in a God-pleasing church-building affair, and help the needy to gain shelter.
Merciful Savior promised, "Whatever you do for the poor for the glory of My name, even if you only give a cup of cold water to one of these little ones who is my disciple, truly I tell you, that person will certainly not lose their reward."
